Community Services and Facilities
There are a wide variety of community services and facilities within the parish that serve the local community. They can be categorised under the following headings and take place at the following locations.
Leisure
There are a number of playgrounds and play areas in both Desford village and Botcheston . A variety of youth groups meet. Community leisure activities take place at Sport in Desford and Bosworth Academy . There are allotments to rent at the western edge of the parish. Desford Tropical Birdland is a local tourist attraction, attracting visitors from a wide area.
Retail
There are local shops, a Post Office and Hairdressers within the parish.
Food and drink
A Café, local pubs in Desford and Botcheston , and Takeaway food shops all serve the parish.
Community Facilities
Desford Village Hall, Botcheston Village Hall, The Church Centre and Sport in Desford all have a variety of regular activities and provide spaces that can be hired by the community. There are two places of worship: St Martin’s Church and Desford Free Church. The Library is a prominent building in the centre of the village. There is a Cemetery is on the western edge of the village.
Childcare and Education
There are a number of Nurseries , Playgroups and Parent and Toddler groups within the parish. There are also Child minders and provision for Before and After School Care. Bosworth Academy and Desford Community Primary School provide state education for 4 to 18 year olds. There are also opportunities to take part in adult learning classes. Topsham House Day Nursery opened in 1996 in Peckleton, before it relocated in September 2000 to the centre of the village in Desford and provides high quality nursery education.
